The House of Velour presents it’s first publication: Vym, an art magazine about drag.
Vym is is edited by Johnny and Sasha Velour (dancer John Jacob Lee and comics/drag artist Sasha Steinberg – author of the Stonewall series). The 40 page full-color preview issue includes art (comics, photography, and collage), interviews, and essays. Vym features works by both LGBTQ and allied artists: Jon Chad, Laurel Lynn Leake, Eric Kostiuk Williams, and John Lisle to name a few!
From the editor’s letter: “In Vym, we want to present drag as both a stylized art form and a political action. It is an act rich in both theatre and theory, tied to legacies of sequins and masks, but engaged with issues of gender, race, and class. Drag is something that everyone recognizes, but not everyone knows. We hope to change that.”
