GB Tran is an Eisner-nominated cartoonist and author of the graphic memoir Vietnamerica. Included by Time Entertainment on its all-time “Top 10 Graphic Memoir” list, it also earned the Society of Illustrators’ gold medal for Sequential Art and the New York Foundation for the Arts’ Gregory M. Nonfiction Literature Fellowship. Since self-publishing his first comic in 2003—the Xeric awarded Content—his stories have strived to use comic’s idiosyncratic language as a vehicle to explore memoir and memory. An adjunct professor at the California College of the Arts, GB’s teaching draws from eclectic approaches and processes from his work as a designer and cartoonist. In recognition of the latter, he was awarded the Civitella Ranieri Fellowship in 2016, the first cartoonist to be selected since Alison Bechdel.
