Ingrida Picukane (Ingrīda Pičukāne)

Ingrīda Pičukāne (b.1978, Latvia) – an artist and a teacher. Currenly working as an animation and comics teacher at the Riga Art and Media School. She studied painting at J. Rozentals Riga art school, graphic design at the Art Academy of Latvia and animation at the Estonian Academy of Arts. She works in different techniques: comics, drawing, video, animation, installations, murals and live performance.
Pičukāne’s comics have been published in many anthologies and magazines since 2007, including Baltic comics magazine “š!” and the Slovenian “Stripburger”. Artist have developed her own style of comics storytelling inspired by Medieval art and based on continuous narrative, that shows repetitive characters in one frame, that is not divided into panels, that allows to draw long panoramic views and to show the landscape as a separate character.
In 2016, the artist released her first comic book, Three Sisters, which received positive reviews from comic critics around the world. In 2023, the comic book Zaļais Ceļojums (Green Journey) was published, created in collaboration with artist Vivianna Maria Stanislavska. This year was published Pičukāne’s third book Feminae Explorarum. The comics in the book are mostly forest-themed, emphasizing the female protagonist and the feminist message.
