“Join us!
The world has unified into one mind! All human beings live together in harmony.
All but you, that is.
We aren’t sure how you were able to resist Unification, but we are going to find out. Our alien Overlords will be so happy to welcome us into their empire! …please don’t mess this up for us.”
Hivemind is a rules light, Mork Borg compatible role playing game. It is printed on Risograph in blue and fluorescent pink ink and it is 40 pages long. It was designed by Andrew Taylor using both original illustrations and images from the public domain. It was inspired by Pluribus, Fallout, art by humans, and Pulp Sci-fi Magazines.
AI generated art is lame. There are lots of reasons why and lots of harsher words to describe it, all of which you can look up if you don’t already know them. Humans both smarter than me and dumber than me have made great arguments against it, most of which I agree with, but ultimately the one that sticks with me is that AI can never make anything new. It can never really make art because art is human expression. Humans are weird and flawed and their brains all work differently and that is beautiful.
This book features artwork made exclusively by humans, and writing, digital collage and design, and some original art by me, Andrew Taylor (also a human). It is all in the public domain, which means I can legally steal it and remix it without ever asking a robot to do it for me. You could do this too. If you ever want to make a low budget, weird little creative project that shows us all how strange and beautiful your brain is, you could use artwork from the public domain. Or you could draw it yourself. Who cares if it sucks, have you seen a Jackson Pollock? I mean, good lord.
