The Small Press Expo (SPX) is a registered 501(c)(3) that was created in 1994 to promote artists and publishers who produce independent comics. SPX hosts an annual festival – the largest such festival in the United States – that provides a forum for artists, writers and publishers of comic art in its various forms to present their art to the public. Nearly 700 creators and publishers will exhibit their work at SPX each year.
SPX welcomes members of the media to our annual festival and our Ignatz Awards ceremony. Press passes for the SPX festival are available by request. It will be extremely helpful for you to provide advance notice on any audiovisual equipment you intend to bring with you to the festival.
The 2016 SPX festival will be held September 17 and 18th in Bethesda, Maryland at the world class Bethesda North Marriott & Conference Center at 5701 Marinelli Road, North Bethesda, Maryland. Since 1994, Bethesda has been the home of the SPX festival and we’re extremely proud of our longstanding association with the Montgomery County community.
SPX sponsors a number of events and charitable initiatives that support our core mission to promote, protect and preserve the work of independent artists. These efforts are supported via partnerships and programmatic relationships with the Library of Congress, the National Book Festival and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
Have questions about SPX? Want to set up an interview during the show with a member of our organization or one of our attending creators? We’d be glad to help you make the most of your visit to 2016 festival. With advance notice we can work on your behalf to schedule interview times with our special guests.
