Dummy Zine

Dummy is a comics history print publication by editor/publisher John Kelly. who has written about comics history for The Comics Journal for 35 years. Each issue does a deep dive into one particular subject and is filled with extremely rare artwork. Issue #1 looked at the Art of Pee-wee’s Playhouse and featured conversations with the artists who created the visual design for that show and its merchandise–cartoonists Gary Panter, Wayne White, Ric Heitzman, Mark Newgarden, Kaz and others. Issue #2 is 92 pages of Mickey Mouse parody in comics, featuring the strange story of the notorious Air Pirates. The issue also looks at Mickey parody before and after the Air Pirates–Tijuana Bibles, MAD magazine, Wallace Wood’s infamous Disneyland Memorial Orgy poster, PLUS interviews with artist Stanley Mouse, Robert Armstrong (Mickey Rat) and Kaz (Creep Rat).

Debuts

Dummy #2 – A 92 page examination of Mickey Mouse parody in comics- Starring the notorious AIR PIRATES. The most in-depth coverage of the strange story of the Air Pirates, the group of young cartoonists who got into serious legal trouble for their parodies of Mickey Mouse and other trademarked Disney Characters. Air Pirate Gary Hallgren will be at the Dummy Table all weekend signing copies of the issue.

Book Signings

All Weekend! Cartoonist, and former member of the notorious Air Pirates, Gary Hallgren will join Dummy editor/publisher at the Dummy Table all weekend to sign copies of Dummy #2, which recounts the strange story of the Air Pirates.
