Flying Eye Books

Flying Eye Books is an award-winning children’s publisher based in East London. Established in early 2013, Flying Eye Books specialises in illustrated books – from board books to graphic novels, focusing on the craft of children’s storytelling to help all young readers fall in love with books.

Since 2013, an array of stunning and innovative titles has populated the list, including the award-winning Hildafolk series by Luke Pearson and the highly acclaimed Professor Astro Cat’s Frontiers of Space from Ben Newman and Dr. Dominic Walliman. We have published exquisite picture books and enchanting illustrated biographies from breakaway talents like Emily Hughes (Wild), Joe Todd-Stanton (The Secret of Black Rock, winner of the Illustrated Book Category for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2018 and The Comet, winner of the Carnegie Shadowers’ Choice Award for Illustration 2023) and William Grill (Shackleton’s Journey, a New York Times Best Illustrated Book of 2014 and winner of the 2015 Kate Greenaway Medal). Recently, Carlos Sánchez’s Rune: The Tale of a Thousand Faces became the first graphic novel to ever win a category at the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.

In 2025,  Flying Eye Books expanded into the YA arena. Having established ourselves as leaders in children’s graphic novels over the past 12 years, this expansion means we can look to publish a wider range of subjects and help nurture our reader base as they mature.

This year, special guest Carlos Sánchez will be appearing at SPX. For more information, click here. He will be appearing on the “World Building with Color” Panel @ 4:30 Sunday, White Oak Room

Panel info: Color is an underrated aspect of cartooning. It can advance a narrative, fill in blank space, modulate emotion, or add abstract elements to stories. John Warren will inquire how Carlos Sanchez (Rune), Ingrīda Pičukāne, (Three Sisters), Sanika Phawde (Wedding Juice), Carly Shooster (Mamita) employ color in their comics.
