Julio A. Serrano (Don Julio) was born in Puertollano, Ciudad Real. He is a screenwriter and cartoonist. He holds a degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Photography and Video, from the University of Castilla–La Mancha (UCLM), and studied Media Art at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig in Germany.
In 2011, he began publishing in the Spanish satirical magazine El Jueves. A year later, he launched his own weekly series, DesHechos Históricos (‘Historical Misdeeds’), which is still running. In 2014, he introduced his second series, Pornopedia, which concluded and was collected in a single volume published by Fandogamia in 2018.
In 2019, Fandogamia published DesHechos Históricos: Mito, Rito, Gorgorito, the first collected edition of the series. The second volume, DesHechos Históricos 2: Gente mierda de la historia (‘History’s Shittiest People’), was released in 2021. The third followed in 2023 under the title DesHechos Históricos 3: Todo mal, todo el rato, en todas partes (‘Everything Went Wrong, All the Time, Everywhere’). The fourth volume, DesHechos Históricos 4: Gloria, patria y endogamia (‘Glory, Homeland, and Inbreeding’), was published in 2025. The fifth collected edition is scheduled for release in 2026.
In 2011, he published the children’s comic Cecilia Van Helsing: El caso del ladrón de meriendas (‘Cecilia Van Helsing: The Case of the Snack Thief’) with Mamut. The second installment, Cecilia Van Helsing y la dieta del vampiro (‘Cecilia Van Helsing and the Vampire’s Diet’), illustrated by Juanjo Cuerda, was released in 2018. The third, Cecilia Van Helsing y el caso del señor que tenía una oreja en la frente (‘Cecilia Van Helsing and the Case of the Man with an Ear on His Forehead’), has been published.
In 2021, he launched the successful and controversial series of adult coloring booklets consisting of Ser fascista está mal (‘Being a Fascist Is Wrong’), now in its thirteenth edition, El niño Jesús no odia a los mariquitas (‘Baby Jesus Doesn’t Hate Queers’), and Los negritos no van a comerte (‘Black People Aren’t Going to Eat You’).
He has also worked as an audiovisual screenwriter, most notably contributing to the award-winning short film El fantasma de la Quinta (‘The Ghost of La Quinta’).
In addition, he has illustrated several children’s books, served as editor-in-chief, and teaches comic book scriptwriting at Voxel School University Center.
